5. Flying over LAX (1 of 2)

Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) allows airplanes to fly directly over the field in what they call the "Special Flight Rules Area."

In this picture, I'm just northwest of the field (heading southeast) at 3,500 feet. The two diagonal black streaks in the middle of the picture are runways.

The "Special Flight Rules Area" allows pilots to fly directly over LAX at either 3,500 feet (headed southeast) or 4,500 feet (headed northwest). This eliminates the need to fly all the way around LAX's airspace when passing through the area.

Flying right over one of the world's busiest airports is WAY COOL!
